Such a perfect gift for Christmas. The much anticipated Nollywood masterpiece has arrived weeks ago. The remake of Aki and Pawpaw, one of the most classic comic movies ever produced is available now on screens.
The remake had its theatrical release on December 17. According to reports, incredibly, it has grossed N30 million at the box office during its opening weekend. Now, it’s available in all cinemas.
So earlier this year, Osita Iheme (Pawpaw) and Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) both announced that a remake of their movie is underway. According to them, they gave it a second thought after receiving countless requests from people.
The original Aki and Pawpaw movie dropped in 2003. In fact, the actual title is Aki and Ukwa. However, Osita Iheme’s character which was nicknamed Pawpaw in the movie overshadowed Ukwa. Interestingly, even now, for over decades, the character trends on Twitter and other social media platforms as memes.
The movie unravelled the life of two brothers who caused complete chaos at their home. As troublesome as they are, the home couldn’t contain them. It transcended to their school and eventually the entire community.
Aki and Pawpaw are some of the most powerful characters ever created.
Chuckwuka Emelionwu, the producer of the movie earned credits for creating such brand characters. Directed by Amayo Uzo Phillips, the film was the debut role for Osita and Chinedu. Also, it was their maiden collaboration.
After the release, the duo became one of the best-paired actors in Nollywood. They co-starred in countless movies.
18 years later, they have reunited on screens as brothers. Would the roles change – or what would be the storyline?
