The Ghana Police Service has interdicted the police bodyguard that they previously assigned to protect the Member of Parliament for Madina constituency, Francis Xavier-Sosu. The guard allegedly has soiled his integrity with misconduct.
According to the police, Inspector Daniel Agbavor recklessly drove into a crowd just after a protest in Madina. The unfortunate incident that took place last Monday, 25th October 2021 directly endangered the lives of two other senior officers and some civilians.
The two officers have lodged a complaint at the Police Administration for further investigations. This would eventually result in punitive measures to bring the bodyguard to order.
Meanwhile, the police have tasked the Parliamentary Protection Unit to assign a new police guard for the Member of Parliament.
The update has caused an uproar among Ghanaians. The supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) believe the police system is corrupt. Thus, the force is a puppet for the ruling government. The supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the other hand, believes the force is just doing its job devoid of political strings.
However, following the protest, the MP, Francis Xavier-Sosu has escaped two attempts for arrest. The Ghana Police Service has stated that he organized the demonstration without a permit from them.
Today, they stormed the church he worships but he managed to escape with the help of colleague Muntaka Mubarak. Displeased by the incident, Agyenim-Boateng believes it’s unfair for a sitting MP to be treated in that manner. He wonders how the police would handle an ordinary citizen.
