Nigerian superstar, Davido wows people by revealing the intention behind the recent request of funds from his friends and loved ones. Actually, the funds solicited were not for birthday celebration – it was one of his jokes, he says.

In a letter dated November 19, 2021, the Jowo hitmaker has stated that he is blessing orphans with the funds. He showed gratitude for the funds he has received. According to him, even though he was joking that it was for his birthday, the outcome is surprising.

Davido stated that in total, he received NGN 200,000,000.00. He is set to donate this fund across orphanage centers in the country. Paroche foundation is also a beneficiary. To blow people’s mind all the more, he is making a personal donation of NGN 50,000,000.00 in addition. That will bring the total amount to NGN 250,000,000.00.

Interestingly the singer is poised to affect the lives of the orphans. In ensuring that the mission is successful, he has set up a committee to carry out plans. The five-man disbursement committee involves Mrs Titi Adebayo, Professor Jonathan Nwosu, Professor Yahana Joel Asabe, Pastor (Dr) Oyalabu and Professor Uloma Onuoha.

Born David Adedeji Adeleke, the record producer stated that this is what he intends to do every year to mark his birthday. So, this is how he wants to give back to the community and the needy. Therefore, he is asking fans and colleagues to always help him to carry out this mission.

Among other reactions on social media is a hoot at his critics. When the news broke out first, Davido received a massive backlash. The colleagues and fans who showed openly their participation in the project were not spared.

In fact, people didn’t just get. They quizzed why rich people are willing to give to the rich instead of the poor. Besides, why should someone like David ask for funds for nothing important than birthday.
