A few few people are experiencing true happiness in their lives, the kind that lasts. A lot of people, on the other hand don’t have control over their emotional lives – it’s being driven by some factors that could be lived without. An hour ago they were happy, a few minutes after they are sad.
Their life experiences alternating happy-sad patterns, ups and downs. But what if there is a way one can overcome and take charge of his or her emotional life once and for all and stay happy throughout the ups and downs in life? It would be awesome right?
Then here we go, let’s look at five of the ways one can adapt to stay happy throughout;
1. Turn off the urge of Needing
A lot of people feel they need something – more money, new clothes, better relationships – to make them happy. They think: “If only I had that other thing, I would be complete”. Instead of enjoying life, they chase a vague idea of happiness.
The ups and downs in life don’t end even after you acquire what you think would make you happy.
So stop chasing after things with the hope of making you happy and start living. Wanting more is fine, but don’t forget to relax and enjoy life for what it is – in the present.
2. Accept Responsibilities
Often we blame other people, circumstances and even objects for our situations in life. We are always like “This happened because nobody helped me”; “It’s my car that made me late”.
But life is full of different people and situations: some are good and some are bad. Unless you assume responsibility for your life, you’ll always be at the mercy of those circumstances.
It’s better you focus on how to make your life, how to make things better instead of looking for whose fault in other to apportion blame to. Never sulk and try not to feel sorry for yourself too often. It’s your responsibility to make yourself happy: nobody else’s.
3. Don’t Wait For “Happy Stimulus“
We live in a world of endless stimulation. From movies, video games and to the internet, there is always something exciting happening. Sometimes, this makes us feel bored and restless when we run out of stuff to do.
If you want to be happy, overcome this addiction. Develop the ability to enjoy life in its entirety – even when the stimulation stops.
Appreciate the sky you see on your way to work each day. Cherish each moment you spend with the people you love. Savour every bite of food you get to eat. Enjoying every experience will give you many new reasons to be happy.
4. Take In Charge
This is in relation to point 2.
When you want to lose fat – check your diet. You’re lonely? Start dating or… If you’re unhappy with your job, start looking for a new one. Take the steering of your own life and drive!
5. Expect Nothing About Everything
The best way to be happy is never to expect others to be like you. Sometimes we expect others to treat us better than we treat them. We break down sooner and easier because we didn’t become instantly what we dreamt of.
In short, we tend to have unreasonable expectations. Dreams and goals that are vague. The difference between what we feel entitled to and what we actually get is the source of much misery.
Accept life in its entirety; stop thinking in terms of what should be and accept what is. When you live without entitlement, every good thing becomes an amazing surprise. When you don’t expect anything, there is nothing to disappoint you.
Some lives are happy because they chose to be, not because the day brought it to them; we all have the same days and it would have brought us happiness too. So don’t wait for a happy day, create one!
Nothing good comes so easily. Staying happy is a good thing. Therefore master these five measures above and happiness would stay with you forever nourishing every aspect of your life.
