American political activist, Angela Davis has added her voice to the conflict going on between the Israelis and Palestinians. She has said that she will deliver a petition signed by 75k to Anthony Blinken to help stop the illegal expulsion of Palestinians in Jerusalem by the Israelis.
Reports read that tension keeps surging in the Holy month of Ramadan as there is violence amid illegal evictions of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah. This has led to hundreds of Palestinians injured.
Notably, 25 people including children in Gaza are dead. The unfortunate incident followed an Israeli Defense Force Operation with the code name “Guardian of the Walls.”
Angela Davis shared, “The Israeli government is planning to forcefully expel hundreds of Palestinians from their homes in the #SheikhJarrah and #Silwan neighborhoods of Jerusalem.”
“In one hour, we will be delivering a petition signed by more than 75k people to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, demanding that he intervenes to stop these illegal expulsions.”
According to Palestinians, it is cowardice on behalf of the Israelis to attack them in the month of Ramadan.
Briefly, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back to 1948 during the establishment of the State of Israel in Palestine. Thus, a period when communal violence emanating from Jews and Arabs in British Palestine was getting out of control. After the war, Israeli forces took control over about 78% of historical Palestine. Jordan and Egypt administered the 22% left.
However, by 1967, Israeli had taken over the entire historical Palestine as well as portions controlled by Egypt and Syria.
