The Hip-hop, Gospel and Pop genre 10th studio album of Kanye West, Donda is on musical shelves. Donda has garnered massive reactions from music fanatics and Ye lovers. With the calibre of rapper and influence Kanye has in the fraternity, people really had quite a huge expectation from the rapper and fashion designer.
He named this work of art after her mother Donda C. West. Initially, the album was slated for July 24, 2020, but situations delayed its release multiple times. Finally, August 29, 2021, made it possible for the release.
Donda has 108:59 playing time from 22 tracks. GOOD Music teamed up with Def Jam Recordings to release it. Scoring 89% on Google with less than a week of release is quite awesome. It all boils down to the fact that, so far, it’s dope work.
Well, there have been positive reviews and bad ones as well.
Among the bad, some listeners of the album have expressed that, aside from other turnoffs, the audio quality is bad. Notably, Darlington Akogo, a key AI personality and former Creative Art Director in Music and Videography shared a similar sentiment.
“10 tracks into DONDA. Listening on Spotify. There’s something off about the audio quality and mixing. Sounds bad. Reserving my thoughts, but so far, not impressed 🤷🏾♂️.” Akogo’s followed up comment translates that about 5 out of the 22 only qualified to be on the album.
However, despite all the negative reviews, the album has set records at Apple Music. Within 24 hours of its release, it placed No. 1 in top album charts in 154 countries. Incredibly, it was streamed over 60 million times in the US alone. Moreover, Kanye and “Donda” also broke the 2021 record for being the most-streamed artist and album in one day. Again, Donda became the third most-played album on its first day of release on Apple Music ever. Interestingly, it has beaten Olivia Rodrigo as the most-streamed album in a day.
