A final year student of Jachie Pramso SHS (JAPASS) has received unimaginable beatings from her headmaster. As of now, the female student fears the incident may affect her performance for the ongoing West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The traumatised 19-year-old student, Mary spoke on a GhanAkoma, a current affairs and political show on Akoma FM that her headmaster lashed her with a cane without any reason.
Lamenting on the circumstances that happened prior to her ordeal, Mary explained that it all started in the classroom. The headmaster sacked a male student who was not wearing a school uniform to go back to the dormitory and change. However, he seized the student’s unprescribed attire. Thus, he was sacked to go back unclothed.
As a good Samaritan, Mary gave him her jacket and that’s the conduct that provoked the headmaster. According to her, right there, the head asked her to go and wait for him in his office.
Later on, the headmaster met her there and whipped her mercilessly.
The result is severe bruises at the back of the young lady, a situation most people are calling abuse. Currently, Mary has revealed that she feels a sharp pain in her spine. This has made sitting almost impossible for her. Apparently, it will harm her academics as they are writing final exams period.
“Now I can’t even concentrate and learn because I’ve been traumatized, I have not been able to go to campus since the incident happened and I’m scared it might affect me.” She lamented.
Wading into the conversation, the Ashanti Regional Coordinator for Girl Child Education of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has called the act unprofessional. Hannah Amponsah has encouraged Mary to report to issue to the district education office. According to her, they will take the appropriate measures from that angle.
However, the headmaster who has been identified as Mr Donkor is yet to tell his side of the story. As of now, the media haven’t been able to establish contact with him.
